Cantonese has a basic word order similar to that of English.

[Subject] + [Verb] + [Object]

eg01/

Ngo5 sik6 maan5faan6

 我 食 晚飯

 I eat dinner

Having said that this is the "basic" order, there are also various possibility to put words into sentences. Sometimes the S-V-O structure is maintained with some new elements added in; sometimes S (subject) could be omitted; sometimes O (object) may come before V (verb). Below are some examples. We could look at different constructions later after the introduction of more vocabularies :)

eg04/ (new elements)

Ngo5 mei6 sik6 maan5-faan6

 我 食 晚飯

 I yet eat dinner

eg03/ (S is omitted)

Sik6-m4-sik6 faan6 aa3?

食 唔 食 飯 呀?

eat-not-eat rice [SFP^]

^SFP = sentence final particle (let's keep this for later)
